Will of Charles Lewis, 1808


In the name of God Amen 

I Charles Lewis of the State of Kentucky and County of Muhlenberg calling to
mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed once for all
mankind to die being weak in body but of perfect mind, I have thought proper
to make and constitute this my last will and testament.
I Charles Lewis desire that my body be decently buried.
I Charles Lewis do give and bequeath to my son James Lewis one negro boy
named Mandy, and one horse.
I Charles Lewis do give and bequeath to my daughter, Sezean one negro girl
named Tammer and one featherbed.
I Charles Lewis do give and bequeath to my son John Lewis one negro boy by
the neme of Dick and one horse.
I Charles do give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca one negro boy David.
I Charles do give and bequeath to my daughter Dizer ? one negro boy named
Simon.
I Charles do desire to give to my three youngest children, Elizabeth Lewis,
William Lewis, and Mary Lewis, one negro child provided the old wench shall
bear as many. If not this increase, I desire the said three children to be
made up as much as will make them equal with the others above mentioned at
the death of my wife.
I Charles do give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Lewis her life, three
negros, Peter, Marnor, and Grace, with all my lands, stock, and household
furnirure. Then the balance after, make the three children above mentioned
equal with the rest. The balance to be equal divided amongst the hole at
the death of my wife Elizabeth Lewis.
I Charles Lewis do beg and desire that my wife Elizabeth Lewis, James Lewis,
and Isaac Pennington shall stand as guardians this being my last will and
testament.

The last will and testament of Charles Lewis dec'd was produced in court
and fully proved by the oath of Frances Wells a subscribing witness and
ordered to be recorded.
