Four or five graves in this same area marked with field stones.  No names or dates.  On one  stone next to Sarah Hicks Clark a “C” was readable; nothing more.

Could this be a child of Sarah Hicks Clark and Francis Clark Jr. or could it be the grave site of  Francis Clark Jr?
The grave of Sarah Hicks Clark is dominated by a granite slab which covers the entire grave.  Over the years the slab has broken, however, all the words can still be read!

  1. My dad was Herbert Stivers of Fogertown, Kentucky. He was born in 1926. His Grandpa was William Stivers (aka) Bill who was a brother to his great uncle (Hook Stivers) who lived on the Tanyard many years, he lived with his daughter Nora Johnson when he passed away. William Stivers married Eliza Noe (she passed away Aug. 17th 1941 when daddy was 14 years old, she Eliza Noe Stivers and his grandpa William (Bill) Stivers was buried in The Tanyard Cemetery in Fogertown, Ky,. he wrote it all down for me. They had 8 children, Walter Stivers, Robert (aka) Bob Stivers, James (aka) Jim Stivers, Lettie Stivers, Martha Stivers, Mittie Stivers, Sophia Stivers, Elizabeth Stivers who was my dad Herbert Stivers mother. All were his uncle’s and aunts whom he knew and lived dearly!!! He talked of all of his cousins by them all. His great uncle Hook Stivers had a son George Stivers who was killed by his daughters husband Nora Johnson who was married to Talt Johnson. He says, Clarence Johnson and another son was all Hook Stivers had after the killing of his son George Stivers. My dad said, Talt Johnson and family moved from Clay county to Jackson county. This all took place around 1935-1936. He said his Aunt Maggie Peters was a sister to Talt Johnson and John Turner’s wife was his sister. He told me that Nora Johnson husband Talt Johnson was shot and killed by a man named Press Cole in Jackson County. My dad’s great and was Lucinda Stivers who married Peter Greer and they had 16 children. I have the photo of all 18 of them together. One of the children was Emma Greer who married a Lewis and became Emma Greer Lewis and she helped raise my dad Herbert Lee Stivers along with his mother Elizabeth Stivers and his grandparents William Bill Stivers and Eliza Noe Stivers. He would get tears in his eyes when I would show him the picture of Emma Greer Lewis. you told me she was the most wonderful Christian woman he had ever known in his life. I wrote everything down and so did he about his family and we would talk for hours about them. My dad Herbert Stivers married Barbara Thompson who is the daughter of Benjamin Harrison Thompson and Avis Hicks Thompson of Manchester Kentucky. Daddy and Mommy had nine children. Jack, David, Shirley, Linda (me) Sandra, John, Mike, Vicky, and Charles Stivers. So my dad was a Stivers related to the Greer, Benge, Johnson’s, Lewis, and other families in Clay County. My dad passed away May 31, 2018. He was 91 years, 7 months old. he was in perfect health but passed away because he was misdiagnosed by a doctor. You never saw a doctor in his life and always said if you start going to one you’ll end up dead. Boy was he ever right. He had accepted Jesus as his Savior and I will see him soon. There will never be another like him. I was totally devastated when he passed away but I thank God for all the years he gave me with him.

    • Linda I read your post and brought back some memories of growing up in Burning Springs Ky . I am Charles Burton McDaniel born 11-23-43 son of Grandville Pearl McDaniel and Anna Margret Harding McDaniel. Mom died in April 1970 and Dad died March 1975 buried in Pine Grove cemetery off Foggertown Rd . I remember Harrison I knew him as “poor Hair” and Avis as if it were yesterday, I spent a many many nights at there home by the fire place to keep warm, and by the only lights was a coal oil lamps Avis had, at that time they did not have electric in their home, to iron the clothes she had an old cast iron heavy iron she would set on the kitchen stove to heat up then iron with that the reason I know so much about this time was your uncle Curtis that was like a brother , we would ride our bicycles did not matter how hot or cold. Avis and poor hair was so good to me Avis was a good christen woman and in later years I understand Harrison gave his life to Christ “how wonder-full” . I never knew your Mother Barbara she was older , did not know your Dad either “wish I had know him” but Heard about him growing up. I do remember going to see your Uncle Bill when they had him laid out”remember the room and place well” after he was killed in Burning Springs after being hit by a car while walking. the story on that my half brother Warren Harding told me that a man from Manchester was hauling whiskey and hit Bill , I don’t know who the mas was. I remember your Aunt Violet,& her husband Sherman Pennington very well , the three children (I believe) were very young at the time they lived at bottom of the hill on 421 by Oliver Corrnett’s house . last time I saw Violet was at some one’s funeral. I loved Violet , “rest in peace” Been doing some searching on the “Find a Grave .com” site trying to figure out where Harrison and Avis are buried maybe you know, I know where Curt is buried “up the hollow behind poor hair and Avis’s house” in the Thompson cemetery and I know Violet is buried in Jackson Co Ky. That is 4 four kids Violet, Barbara, Bill and Curt that I have bur seems as if there is one more that lived in Manchester in the area about where the Britton funeral home is now, seems like her name may be Georgia but not sure about that . I know this is quite long reading but glad you put the post up and I found it . My e-mail in burtmc@ymail.com hoping to hear from you . best regards Burton

  2. I hope they correct the typos in my long story above regarding my dad (Herbert Stivers) and his huge family. I wanted to add that most of the people in the Old Benge Cemetery are related to my dad and he talked of all of them often and OH!!! how he loved them all!!!! ❤️❤️ John 3:16, John 14:6
