Skinner Duvall’s will, dated September 17, 1809, from Muhlenberg County, outlines his wishes regarding the distribution of his assets. He revokes prior wills and allocates his land, plantation, household furniture, and livestock to his wife, Elizabeth Duvall, for her lifetime. After her death, these will be divided among his sons, Howard and Benjamin Duvall, along with small bequests to his other children and Manly Moore. Elizabeth and Elisha Duvall are named as executors. The will was validated in court by witness oaths in October 1809.
In the name of God Amen
I Skinner Duvall, of Muhlenberg County, being of sound mind and memory,
do desire this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others
heretofore by me made. and recommending my soul to God who gave it to me and
my body to the dust in comfortable hopes for a joyful resurrection. and as
to my worldly goods which it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give in
the manner following:
My desire for all my debts first to be paid then I give and bequeath to my
beloved wife Elizabeth Duvall, my land and plantation whereon I now live,
and all my household furniture, and all my stock of all kinds during her
natural life, then to be divided betwen my sons, Howard Duvall and
Benjamin Duvall, and **----? Duvall, except five shillings a piece
to all the rest of my children and ten pounds in trade to Manly Moore.
I appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth Duvall and Elisha Duvall
my joint executors to this my last will and testament.
This 17th day of Sept. in the year 1809
